On application of ETH President Lino Guzzella, the ETH Board has appointed nine new professors at ETH Zurich, among them physicist Yiwen Chu, who will join ETH as a Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Hybrid Quantum Systems.

Optical measurements by an international team led by ETH physicist Leonardo Degiorgi provide unprecedented insight into the make-up of the enigmatic nematic order in iron-based superconductors.

It is not that easy to decide on a course of study. The offer is vast. The annual study information event of ETH is a platform for personal contacts to help making the right decision. Pupils meet students and professors from various disciplines and move around in the university atmosphere. This gives them impressions that virtual channels cannot convey. And that is why the event is so popular.

Cosmic-ray events, such as exceptionally large solar eruptions, are recorded globally in trees. This is what 67 scientists from 56 institutions under the leadership of the Laboratory of Ion Beam Physics at ETH Zurich and the WSL Birmensdorf show in a study based on more than 400 radiocarbon analyses of 44 tree-ring records.

As in 2017, the ETH spin-off IRsweep, which offers cutting-edge optical spectrometers in the mid-infrared, has been named one of the 100 most innovative and promising Swiss startups, as picked by a panel of 100 investors and startup experts.
