Education
The department provides dedicated basic physics education throughout all departments at ETH Zurich and offers its physics students a rich curriculum in physics, including practical work in experimentation and theoretical proseminars; the broad three-years Bachelor program is complemented with a three-semester Master program that offers focused studies in various directions of modern physics, including a four-months thesis work in a research group. The educational goals include the training in analytical thinking, a broad education in basic physics, and the ability to formulate/formalize and solve new problems. Doctoral studies are carried out in individual research groups. Numerous seminars and the weekly colloquium, organized jointly with the University of Zurich, bring students and faculty into contact with the latest scientific developments in the natural sciences. Furthermore, the department offers vocational training for physics laboratory technician, polymechanic, electronics technician, and design technician.
