Teaching-Assistant Positions

We are always looking for students who can help with supervising practical courses and exercises accompanying the physics lectures offered within D-PHYS (in particular Physics I/II/III) and for other departments (including D-MAVT, D-BAUG and D-CHAB).

Task description

  • Holding classes and responsibility for correcting the exercises of your practice group, or supervising students in the beginners' lab.
  • Expected are 12 hours per week for practice sessions, including time for preparing and correcting, or two half-days per week for
    supervising students in the beginners' lab.
  • You will receive help from the persons responsible for the exercises or the lab, who will provide hints for solving the exercises and information on the experiments. Your activity is limited to the term itself.

Requirements for Application and Employement

We look for Physics students at ETH Zurich who have passed their basic examinations with good average mark in the Physics subjects.

Students who have not passed yet the 2nd block of exams can only work for lectures offered for other departments.

For beginners, there is every semester a didactic training for teaching assistants. Participation is mandatory for a job as a teaching assistant at D-PHYS. Information regarding the event is provided shortly before the start of the semester.

Bachelor students from 'third countries' (i.e., outside EU/EFTA) can be employed as an teaching assistants only six months after the date of entry. For Master students no such restriction exist. Information about required permits, documents, etc. may be found here.

As soon as the application window is open you can apply via this Link for a teaching assistant position. You will receive a response to your application by the beginning of the semester at the latest.
The application window for the spring semester usually opens in mid-November and for the autumn semester in mid-May.

Please note

  • During the semester, teaching assistants can work at ETH usually a maximum of 15 hours per week. In particular, each student can only take on one teaching-assistant position at D-MATH or at D-PHYS.
  • Payments are made in three instalments of 56 hours each.
