Additional information

Gerhard Wider works as senior scientist at the Institute for Molecular Biology and Biophysics, where he is in charge of the high-field nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) laboratory. He is a lecturer in the Departments of Biology and Physics. In May 2003 he was awarded the title of Professor.

Gerhard Wider was born in Zurich, Switzerland, and studied physics at the ETH Zurich. In 1982 he received his Ph.D. (supervisor: Prof. K. Wüthrich) from the ETH. He then spent almost seven years in industry, working in different positions in Switzerland and Australia, where he set up the Australian subsidiary of a European high-tech company. In 1988 he returned to the ETH as a staff scientist and lecturer at the Institute for Molecular Biology and Biophysics. In 1998 he completed his "habilitation" in Biophysics at the Department of Biology.

The research interests of Gerhard Wider are devoted to structural biology. His areas of specialization are the application and the further development of nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy for studies at atomic resolution of the three-dimensional structure of biological macromolecules.
