Onboarding Course for New Students

The D-MATH and D-PHYS departments offer an optional one-week preparatory course in cooperation with the STEM Learning Center. This course aims to ease the start of university studies and takes place from Monday 8 September to Friday 12 September 2025. Attending the course is voluntary; the course does not anticipate any content from the physics degree programme.
The course consists of two parts, for which separate registration is required. Please note that the course is offered only in German.
Mathematics course and social programme
Mathematics at university level is quite different from high-school mathematics. The focus shifts from calculations to proofs: the concept of proving mathematical statements is presented in three lectures followed by exercises. The exercises are discussed in a tutorial. Lectures, assignments and tutorials are in the style of university degree courses to reflect the way teaching and learning at a university work.
This part also includes a social programme, which features Q&A sessions with teaching assistants and joint lunches. A fee of 75.- CHF must be paid to participate to the mathematics course and the social programme.
Registrations will open soon.
