For the second time after 2013 a Swiss team, consisting of five physicists, managed a sensation. Marc Bitterli (Captain), Émilie Hertig, Kathrin Laxhuber, Zara Vance and Joonas Vättö won gold at the 29th IYPT in Ekaterinburg, Russia.

Their presentation on the qualitative and quantitative explanation of physical phenomena, their ability to find weak points in the presentations of others, and their general physical understanding convinced the jury. Placed third after five preliminary rounds, they secured Switzerland a place in the final.

In the final, the four best teams (Switzerland, Singapore, Germany and Taiwan), competed against each other on 2 July. After four high-quality fights Switzerland was placed third. The trophy went to Singapore.
