Graduation ceremony 2025
On 20 June, ETH Zurich honoured the graduates of the Master's programs in Physics and High Energy Physics in a festive ceremony.
This year’s graduates are celebrating with their families and friends in a packed Audi Max. Flowers line the stage, setting the scene, and at the center, there’s a special gift for each graduate: an hourglass filled with magnetic powder.
The ceremony is hosted by Professor Christian Degen, Director of Studies, and kicks off with a speech by Professor Jonathan Home, the Head of Department. The keynote is given by Dr Kai Eberhardt, co-founder and CEO of OVIVA – a company that focuses on digital solutions (like personalized apps) for nutrition counseling and therapy. Eberhardt earned his PhD at ETH Zurich in the same research group as Christian Degen. His academic background, paired with his experience in tech and innovation, played a big role in shaping OVIVA and its tech-based approach to nutrition support.
Next up is Adriana De-Sassi, one of this year’s graduates. Under the theme “We did it!”, she shares her personal journey at ETH – talking about the challenges, moments of self-doubt, and the huge amount of effort the studies demanded. She also describes how the humor in the MEME group chat reminded her that she wasn’t alone in feeling overwhelmed – and often gave her a reason to smile. Looking back, she says studying at ETH pushed her to grow beyond her limits while sparking a love for research that kept her curiosity alive.
The recipients of the Willi Studer Prize for the best graduates of the academic year are Clara Galante Agero, Fabian Philipp Vetter and Zhanchuan Zhang.
As in previous years, the ceremony features live music from Alina Amuri on keyboard, this time joined by Tim Bond. Photos were sponsored by the ETH Alumni Association, and the reception was provided by the Department of Physics.
