The Department of Physics pursues a diverse research agenda and a broad teaching programme, covering all areas of physics, from exploring the fundamental principles of nature to the development of innovative technology for society

Research and education

The core research and education areas at the Department of Physics are covered by its four institutes:

Studies, vocational training and continuing education

The Department of Physics provides a comprehensive range of study programmes, which includes a broad three-years Bachelor, a three-semester Master, a Joint Master in High-Energy Physics programme (in collaboration with the École Polytechnique Paris) and Master programmes in Biomedical Engineering and Quantum Engineering. The department also offers continuing-education programmes for teaching certification and in Medical Physics, as well as various technical apprenticeships (vocational training). Doctoral research is carried out in individual research groups.

Lectures and events

A diverse choice of lecture series and events, including the weekly colloquium (organized jointly with the University of Zurich) and specialised seminars, keep students and faculty up to date with the latest scientific developments in the natural sciences.

Services

Through a broad range of services, the department supports its academic, technical and administrative staff as well as students.
